Sigh…why is it whenever they decide to do a romance story for Laura: it’s almost always with her as a Logan fill-in and completely CENTERS on the male characters story?
I just got the inevitable, “Why do you like Hellion; he’s an abusive, toxic, ect…ect…” a few days ago…
And this is why-> because when KYOST wrote him, he was written as an equal for Laura. Their relationship did not CENTER on his character arc. Laura was not just a narrative tool for him to angst over, nor was he for Laura.
Both characters developed; both characters grew.
It was never written as a Jean/Scott/Logan carbon copy; Hellion is A LOT brattier than Jean and had some growing up to do, Laura is more introverted and socially awkward than Logan.
It especially BUGS me Duggan had to add the memory loss element- because Laura can’t be a REAL Wolverine copy without it 🙄
What especially annoys me; writers don’t DO this to Daken. Daken is ALLOWED to be his own character, but because Laura’s a female character she’s not allowed that same curtesy. Instead writers like Bendis and Hopeless just use her to prop up a male character they want to push.
What’s especially hard about this is; I didn’t really care when it was Warren…because I don’t REALLY care about Angel much as a character; but this one ESPECIALLY hurts because, there’s A LOT you could do with Synch. Thomas is INTERESTING.
It just kinda bugs me, especially after how Bishop was hooked up with Jean a few years ago in Age of X as a throw away plot…that the only thing they can think of to do with POC characters…is have them date white women.
SHOW Synch with the relationships PEOPLE WANT TO SEE and have wanted to see FOR YEARS-> show him with Jubilee…or Monet…or Skin…or Chamber…
But this…this is just disappointing
